There are nine subsections in the Respiratory System (J00-J99). Acute Respiratory Infections (J00-J06) is usually an acute or short-term infection, meaning it doesn’t last very long. Some of the symptoms for Acute Respiratory Infection include sore throat, sneezing, low grade fever, nasal congestion, ear pressure, nasal drainage, and cough.
The usual treatment for Acute Respiratory Infections include having to monitor temperature, analgesics, blowing nose periodically, steam and humidifiers, and antihistamines. Some Suppurative and Necrotic conditions of the Lower Respiratory Tract include Pyothorax, Pneumothorax, and Abscess of the Mediastinum. Pyothorax or also known as Empyema, is where pus gathers in between the lungs and inner surface of the chest wall. Pyothorax (J86.0, J86.1), usually develops after pneumonia. The pus can not be coughed out but drained out by a needle or even surgery. The most common bacteria that causes Pyothorax is Streptococcus Pneumoniae, and Staphylococcus aureus.
An acute condition is where the symptoms usually materialize out of no where and get worse very quickly. An acute pain is the response to tell you and your body that you have been hurt. Some examples are like when you bump your toe on the end of a coffee table, or even when you trip and fall.
