Is suicide a result of high educated society or a consequence of isolation, depression and others risk factors? Suicide is a public health problem. Young and old people, living in countries commit suicide, and sometimes relatives do not know the reason that leads to that sad decision. In the lecture presented by Professor Iván Szelényi, suicide is considered a collective phenomenon associated with towering education level, low integration to society and elevated regulation of behavior. Even though Professor Szelényi associated education with increasing the critical thought and breaking of dogmas, it is not the direct cause of elevated suicide rate between educated people. Essaying the same example of Durkheim, that women are less educated and commit less suicide than men, it is clear about the incorrect association. Actually, women do more attempts of suicide, as they have more affected by depression, but men use more violent ways for committing suicide. On this example yet, it is possible argue that nowadays women are as educated as men, but the men rate of suicide keeps higher than the women rate of suicide.
The relation between education and suicide also did not consider that educated people might face more stressful situations, which contributes to the risk of kill themselves. The Durkheim theory failed when associated education to religion, because he did not consider cultural differences and the fact that Catholics are under the threat of family segregation if a relative commits suicide.
