Mike was growing impatient of the jury and wanted a decision the same day. He did not know how but he knew there would have to be a miracle to get the jury to decide soon. All of a sudden, Mammy stands up and walks to podium to speak of something. She started telling the story of Gatsby she was told at a young age by her mother, Daisy. She told Mammy of her love life with Gatsby and the amazing man he was. She then told the part of the story where Daisy told of the death of Myrtle and how Daisy was the one behind the wheel during the hit and run. Mammy began to cry and said Daisy knew she caused Gatsby’s death but did not realize it until it was too late. Daisy took responsibility for her actions, and Mammy was admitting that her mother was the murderer.

Not surprisingly, the jury chose Daisy the murderer of Myrtle Wilson and not Gatsby. The charges were simply to post in the paper and clear the name of Jay Gatsby. These requests were met and Mike’s first move was to go to the hospital to tell Nick. When
Nick heard of the great news he felt accomplished with his life, and was very proud of the job Mike had done for him. Nick knew how much Mike cared and he could never repay him for that. After Mike left, Nick knew he would not last much longer and that it was his time. He could now peacefully pass away knowing his grandson was happy and that his best friend had his name cleared. Nick

Nick Carraway did not know Gatsby well, but after his passing Nick then realized the effect Gatsby had on his life. Nick finally realized how much
Gatsby did for him. He did not know the man meant so much to him until he was gone. He learned so much from the young man, and he helped him in many ways.
Gatsby gave so much to him and Nick never had a chance to repay him before his death. Nick died knowing he finally repaid Gatsby in a way they both could rest with a peaceful and free
