The Goal was written to raise important questions for an organization such as “what do we do?”, “how do we do it now?”, or even “how can we do it better?”. He first mentions “efficiency” when his employees are hand carrying parts one by one to get an order out based on his boss’s request. Alex soon found that his entire division was in jeopardy after examining his boss’s weird outbursts and odd requests.
The Goal tells the story of a plant manager’s journey in attempting to save a production plan from being shut down and the future vitality of the employees involved. The current major issues include inconsistent quality and timeliness in getting products out the door and keeping up with the competition. The reader learns that Order Number 41427 is the order that solidifies that the plant has not been shipping any products in time for the customer and that the machines consistently have inventory stacked
