A Summer of Love
“Summertime”, is a song composed by Beyonce Knowles. The lyric to this song is about two couples falling in love on a summer’s day. Throughout the song you discover that there is more to a relationship besides happiness, love or just having a partner by your side. It is the bond of friendship that is also needed. This song consists of two themes. The speaker is a woman who is singing to her partner about how they met. Her partner also reciprocates on their love story. The song basically discusses their romance, feelings and future plans. This song is a poem due to the poetry elements is possesses such as rhyme, imagery, repetition and ballads.
As stated in chapter 6, there are various subgenres in poetry. "Summertime” by B. Knowles is classified as a narrative poem. Summertime is a love song that shows growth and emotion. Overall, this song carries a romantic upbeat melody. This melody is a good choice for anyone who wants to recall the love in their life or for those who is anticipating that first love.
