Given that I had just recently visited the Harn Museum of the Arts, and I did a very thorough walk through, I decided to broaden my horizons with this project. This especially came in handy when I discovered the piece that struck me the most, the one I knew I would write about. What looks like a canvas portrait is actually beautiful photography titled “Sunset over Baiyun Mountain” by artist Lee Xiang. An enlarged photo of a beautiful mountain landscape above the clouds, this work captures the true artistic level of the nature that surrounds us. Looking at this piece gives me the feeling I am swimming in a sea of colors. These colors contrast each other in an elegant way, most likely a manner of showcasing the key interests in the work. As well, the depth and dimensions of the work leads the viewer to a nostalgic feeling of being one with the work. Mr. Xiang was very friendly and discussed that this was the first real presentation of his works to the public. Though I could not find much of his presence through online, much of what I wanted to learn came from my discussion with Mr. Xiang. A China born artist, Mr. Xiang came to the United States to further pursue his art and decided to travel home to China to reconnect with his roots. He wanted to capture what he called the “ancient beauty of China’s nature”. He told me he never felt as connected to the land as he did working tirelessly on this project to get the perfect
