One major part of a surgical technologist’s profession is remaining on two feet all day: eight hours on the floor and in operating room. This can cause problems in a technologist’s feet and/or back. By utilizing proper body mechanics, a surgical technologist can avoid getting injured or worse, injuring a patient. The list contains information such as the surgeon being left or right handed. It is the technician’s job to make sure he or she has prepared the correct surgical instruments. Once the surgical tools are sterile and transported into the operating room the surgical tech is responsible for arranging them in the correct order. Items missing from the surgical table falls back on the surgical technologist and can delay the surgery. Once all surgical tools are in the correct place all surgical techs suit up in sterile gowns, gloves, and protective masks. It is the technician’s job to make sure the surgeon has his or her gown and gloves on. The surgical techs final step before the surgery is applying a sterile drape around the patient’s incision
