The definition of intelligence is the ability to gain and use knowledge and skills. Most of this prior knowledge is recorded. Books hold tons of knowledge but some of them take years to better understand and grasp the concept of the lesson in the book. In Fahrenheit 451(written by Ray Bradbury), Captain Beatty is intelligent because he reads books, quotes them, and better understands the history of the world than anyone else in the community.…
In chapter six titled Music, Music, Music, the author discussed the importance of musical development, musical intelligence, components of music, selecting appropriate music, instruments, and making music. Musical development spans from infancy to primary grades. Isabelle and Raines (2012) stated that “understanding the unique characteristics of young children during specific developmental periods can provide a framework for developing a responsive curriculum,” (p. 187). Musical intelligence refers to the ability to understand pitch, melody, and rhythm at an advanced degree. Once children began to explore music with instruments, they begin to make music using chants, lullabies, songs, and body parts.…
The assignment was to write a description of my experience using Grammarly and Safe Assign. I must say that I was quite surprised by the experience. Although, I made an attempt to paraphrase Grammarly still corrected my paragraphs for grammar mistakes. I enjoyed how fast Grammarly works as oppose to Safe Assign.…
Introduction Definitions of intelligence vary among scholars, theorists, and laypersons, due to its multidimensionality. However, intelligence typically involves an individual’s ability to learn from experience and adapt to the environment in which they live. I believe that the construct of intelligence should encompass an individual’s ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal form, to think logically, and to express creativity. Two intelligence tests in which I recently had the opportunity to take and score included the Shipley Institute of Living Scale-2 and the Wonderlic Personnel Test.…
The point of grammar I still struggle with is the correct placement of the comma. As I read through the chapter discussing commas in Grammar Moves, I realized that it may be more the matter of recognizing what the independent clause actually is in the sentence and then separating it properly from the dependent clause. The text refers to this as essential and nonessentially information. The “Purdue OWL” website has a section on “Extended Rules for Using Commas,” that helped clarify what is actually the independent clause. You see, in my mind, I think that the dependent clause is also essential information because it provides detailed information in regards to the original sentence.…
Budget Cuts: Cutting More Than Just Finances Seeing that the importance of a legitimate education is flourishing, it is safe to assume that a plethora of funding is set aside for these schools, right? Unfortunately not. Budget cuts to education have started to become steadily frequent. Since the “national recession of 2008 that forced every state to cut money for colleges and universities,” putting budget cuts at their all time low, “at least 31 states provided less funding per student” (Leachman 2).…
Authors may choose to write about characters with extreme personalities, or characters who have a skill that they have mastered because it makes the story more intense, and more interesting for the reader. A character with an ability to reconise any musical piece, maybe without even hearing it before, would be an example. Similarly, a character like Sherlock Holmes can figure out any piece of information just by stepping back and looking at the details of a crime. Although his knowlege may be based on information, Sherlock Holmes can connect the clues and infer what could have happened at a crime scene. This is one of the true characteristics of a wise character, because even Albert Einstein said that "information is not knowlege."…
Even though it is possible for students to have outbreaks of temper tantrums, it should be noted that those using music therapy with students who have disabilities are fully qualified to help keep children safe and calm. These people are professionals and have been trained to help children who have temper tantrums. They are capable of calming these students down, and they help them return to a state of either pleasant or neutral feelings. The continuation of funding for these programs are important to students who are disabled. Music therapy helps them communicate when they are unable to use words.…
Children require a lot of care and attention to help grow and develop. Not just physically but mentally too. Some parents may teach their children the ABCs or colors. But there are other aspects in the world that could affect development as well. Music has been shown to affect not only children when it comes to development, but adults as well.…
Crib Tunes May Have Made You Smarter Music is an integral part of culture, economy, society, and, not surprisingly, our development. Different musical notes condition their brains to different sounds in the environment. Furthermore, musical complexities may subconsciously work their way into the calculating capacity of the child’s cognition and inspire toward a higher level of thinking at a younger age, ultimately influencing the behavior of the adult brain. Studies that try to delineate this correlation often take years of observation, following children as they develop into adults to adequately mark the effects of music at birth.…

The Psychology of Music People have only recently started studying in-depth into music’s connection with brain activity. Scientists are just now starting to develop theories why music has such a big impact on us as humans and our intelligence (Lerch). Music psychology is not a modern idea though. Even the ancient philosophers – Plato, Aristotle, Pythagoras – believed in the calming power of music (“Music and Emotions”).…
“Music is a more pontet instrument than any other for education, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul. ”-Plato. As a student who started music at just the age of 4, I followed the aesthetic thought to music. My love for music began with the magnificence and gratitude I had for music.…
In 1983, Howard Gardner established the Multiple Intelligences Theory (Armstrong, 2013). In his theory, Gardner, who was a Harvard University professor at the time, suggested that the once believed three categories which indicated ways that people learned, was too limited (Armstrong, 2013 & “Howard Gardner’s Theory,” n.d.). Based on a number of I.Q. tests, Gardner established eight aspects of intelligences which consist of Visual-Spatial, Bodily-kinesthetic, Musical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Linguistic, Logical-mathematical and Naturalist Intelligences (Armstrong, 2013). Through his theory, Gardner suggested that “we are all able to know the world through language, logical-mathematical analysis, spatial representation, musical thinking,…
Music has been essential for everyday life for many people. Many people listen to music while waiting for the bus, hiking or driving in a car. Some people even have the talent to read music and play instruments. These multi-talented-gifted people are referred to as musicians and artists. Music has been in society for ages, but does music benefit a student?…
