For this particular family, there are numerous theories that would work well when it comes to describing their interrelationships, however, the theory that stood out to me the greatest would be, systems theory. This theory is described in a way that emphasizes the whole group instead of each individual separately. System theory suggests that a family system, which includes the members of the family and their roles, is greater than the individual persons segment. I find this fitting for the family I observed for a few reasons, the first being the location of this family. If this family were at the grocery store or a shopping mall, I may not have visualized them in such a defined group mode. Instead, I may have seen them as a group of individuals who simply know one another. Being in the hospital this family clung to one another physically and emotionally. They tuned out the rest of the world since it was irrelevant when it came to what they were going through during that time. They needed and relied on one another. Another reason I find this family fits well into the systems theory is due to how well everyone was functioning. The text refers to people involved in systems theory, creating rules of transformation and what this describes is how smoothly the family is able to function, knowing what to expect from whom. In some high stress situations, people often cannot handle the way they are feeling and act out, or children have excess energy to burn, resulting in fidgeting and loss of patience. Yet, in this particular family I was able to detect how well they had placed the rules of transformation and abide by them, even the littlest of family
