Human Resource (HR) planning is the process of forecasting Tanglewood’s future employment needs. Once the employment needs have been forecasted an action plan will be developed to ensure the filling of these needs in a way that aligns with the organization staffing strategy (Heneman, Judge, & Kammeyer-Mueller, 2006, p. 91). The plan will analyze the employment environment to determine how many employees will be needed in the future. Then an assessment of the availability of internal and external employees will be completed. The plan consists of five steps. The forecast of labor requirements found in Table 1.1, showed next year the Washington market of Tanglewood will need to hire 3,995 store associates, 90 shift leaders, 357 department managers, 21 assistant managers, and 5 store managers. The action plan should consist of the development of a staffing plan. The staffing plan develops staffing objectives and generates alternative staffing activities. There are several options of alternative staffing activities available to address staffing gaps. (Heneman, Judge, & Kammeyer-Mueller, 2006, p. 120). Each of the alternatives will need to be analyzed to determine the best option or options for Tanglewood. Outsourcing hiring activities is one activity that Tanglewood could choice as an alternative. Outsourcing hiring activities means that the organization would hire a third party company that would recruit and select employees for open positions (Heneman, Judge, & Kammeyer-Mueller, 2006, p. 127). Striving to retain more employees is another course of action that can be taken. Retention can be controlled by offering the employees benefits that make them want to stay with the
