Dr. Anany says that, “Consumption of food eaten away from home has risen alarmingly” (News Medical). Fast food is getting more and more popular as well as the obesity rate. If people take no efforts to slow this rate down, more and more people will be at risk of becoming obese. It is not a coincidence that both fast food and the rate of obesity are both rising rapidly. This number has risen every year for the past 20 years, and people need to start asking why. “A diet high in saturated and trans fat raises blood cholesterol,” according to heart.org (American Heart Association). Raised blood cholesterol can raise the risk of heart disease substantially. Also, fast food is high in saturated and trans fat. The article also states that “too much sodium can lead to high pressure” (American Heart Association). High blood pressure makes people more vulnerable to getting heart disease. Not only can we get heart disease from high sodium and fats, but also from excessive weight gain.“Left ventricular hypertrophy is common in patients with obesity” (Obesity and Heart Disease). Obesity relates directly to heart disease. Also, “Excessive weight gain can raise the heart disease risk” (Obesity and Heart Disease). Obesity is gaining a lot of weight and this is a big factor to heart disease. Fast food a huge reason why millions of Americans are putting there selves at risk of getting obesity, heart and liver disease. It is obvious that the fast food market will not slow down, but it is unfair that people are eating these foods without knowing the risk. I believe that in the next twenty years the average lifetime for Americans will go down ten to fifteen years unless we do something to stop
