While few of them are used for our survival like water, air, rest of them like coal, gas, oil is used for satisfying our daily needs. From forests to mountains to minerals to coastal shores and wetlands, each of these natural resources has its own importance. As they both travel through this dismal world, the son questions some facts of the previous world and this is where we get to see the father show true parenting. This is important for the novel because later the boy will carry these skills forward when the father is not there for him. Father and son experience some life scarring stuff and some things that remind them of how life used to be. This novel describes the journey of them physically and mentally.
