An anesthesiologist is a physician who is trained in anesthesia and uses it to block out the pain of a patient. Anesthesiology deals with the management of patients under anesthesia, the support of life functions of patients under anesthesia, and the management of problems in pain relief (“Anesthesiology”). Their duties are to take a patient’s medical history, update charts and patient information, order tests for nurses or other healthcare staff to perform, review test results to identify anything abnormal, recommend and design a treatment, and address concerns and answer questions that patient’s have. Anesthesiologists work with other physicians and surgeons to decide on treatments and procedures before, during, and after a procedure (“Anesthesiologist”). An anesthesiologist helps patients by limiting the amount of pain a they feel as much as possible. They do this with the help of modern day anesthetics.
