Children who have depression will sometimes fake being sick, doing everything in their power to not go to school, be extremely close to their parent and never wanting to leave them, or always feeling like their parent might pass away (Nimh). Irritability is the most common sign of depression of teens and children (Smith et al). Being around a person with depression can be hard on everyone they are with or around such as family or friends (“Understanding Depression). “Some people describe depression as “living in a black hole” or having a feeling of impending doom. However, some depressed people don 't feel sad at all- they may feel lifeless, empty, and apathetic, or men in particular may even feel angry, aggressive, and restless” (Smith et al). Suicide is something that may seem like the best or even the only route that one can take to escape the feelings of despair and feeling hopeless that never end (Smith et al). Major depression usually goes on for between 5-7 months if it is not treated (Smith et al). While some will only experience one episode of depression in life but depression is generally a thing that will happen over and over (Smith et al). There is a difference in the way depression appears between men women, teens, and kids. The way depression appears in women, are excessive guilt, sleeping more than they should, eating more than usual and gaining weight (Smith et al). IN men, depression are not as likely as women are to admit to hating themselves and feeling hopeless (Smith et al). Men are also far likelier to always be tired, have a short temper, not enjoying things they used to, and have trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep (Nimh.Nih).
