He says that (Act 5 scene 2 lines 26) “[Juliet] will beshrew me much that Romeo/ Hath had no notice of these accidents.” He knows the plan will not work accordingly and he has to break into the tomb to see Juliet before Romeo does. Before Friar Lawrence enters the tomb of the Capulets he encounters Balthasar. Balthasar tells Friar Lawrence that Romeo has been in the tomb for about a half an hour. After hearing this Friar Lawrence responds (Act 5 Scene 3) “Go with me to the vault” which shows the lack of care he gives Romeo and Juliet. His hesitation to enter the tomb and see Romeo and Juliet 's reaction to his failing plan. This is cowardly because the caring priest should hastily go alone and see if Romeo and Juliet are alright and not lollygag outside the tomb while having a person exposed to the plan. Then, when the Friar has found Romeo dead and Juliet is waking from her sleep he tells Juliet, “I hear some noise.- Lady, come from that nest of death...come come away./ Thy husband in thy bosom there lies dead...stay not to question, for the watch is coming” Then Juliet responds “Go, get thee hence, for I will not away.” Immediately afterwards the Friar exits the tomb. When Friar Lawrence leaves her he knows Juliet will hurt herself. The Friar knows that if Juliet stays with Romeo she is going to die because Juliet already threatened to kill herself over marrying Paris. Friar Lawrence is aware she will go to the extreme once he leaves her with Romeo’s dead body. This was very selfish of Friar Lawrence because he just wants to flee from the watch that is coming instead of helping Juliet cope with Romeo’s death. Friar Lawrence is responsible for their death because when he leaves Juliet she kills
