The dying Gaul can represent so many elements because of that. First of all the use of marble is a really popular material when sculpting, because of its translucency and its durability (mainly used for freestanding sculptures). The implied texture of the sculptor would seem unrealistic however the form of this three-dimensional shape is perfectly created to represent the human body which makes the texture not seem as such a big deal. The positive space would definitely have been the dying Galatian himself and the ground around him with the sword would be the negative space because that's not the main focus of the sculpture. The piece is very asymmetrical because majority of the balance is placed on one side of his hip and arm trying to hold himself up. I would also consider this piece to have lots of movement because the dying Gaul is considered to have been in the process/last moments of his life. Not necessary already dead, he still has some life and movement left as he's holding the wound on his chest and trying to hold himself up. The unity of the sculpture also seems very complete nothing seems out-of-place or out of the ordinary. This sculpture is also supposed have been a “sculpture in the round” ,Which is basically a sculpture that is meant to be seen from 360 degrees, this makes the dying Gaul more realistic. I believe realist or representational was something that was the sculptors main focus when creating this piece, because he interprets a lot of elements that would all help make the sculpture more
