There are one billion children living in poverty, 57 million children going to school to receive an education, over 600 million people lacking access to clean water, and over 700 million malnourished and undernourished people in the world. While these numbers seem impossible to fix, ending extreme poverty is possible. It will take $39 billion dollars to close the education gap for the 57 million children not in school. 5 In the United States, people spend $40 million a year on lawn care. 5 The $24 million needed for universal access to clean water seems like a huge sum of money. 5 In Asia, consumers spend almost the same amount of money on mobile games per year. 5 Spending $160 per person in extreme poverty for 15 years is the estimated amount needed to end world hunger. 5 The average consumer in the United States spends $1,043 per year eating out for lunch. 5 Extreme poverty can be eradicated, and all it takes is the motivation of a few dedicated, passionate individuals to change lives around the world. Global leaders, non-profit organizations, and individual donors and activists have already made a significate impact. There are a billion people no longer living in extreme poverty. Quality education, access to healthcare, water and sanitation, economic security, and helping children learn their rights and become involved in their community provides the necessary foundation to end the cycle of poverty. The average person can get involved in many ways. 1.) Educate yourself about the economics of poverty, how organizations are working to combat it, and learn how your government functions when it comes to providing aid. 2.) Provide support to anti-poverty organizations through donations, volunteering, and advocacy/spreading their message. 3.)
