a) Describe Gestalt psychology’s contribution to our understanding of perception. b) Name and describe the 5 principles of perceptual grouping in form perception.
Gestalt psychology’s contribution to our understanding of perception made other psychologist believe that people have this ability where they organize same objects together as a whole when they are given a group of sensations. For instance, when a person is looking straight forward they only see what is in front of them as a whole instead of seeing what is in the right and left of their perception of view. If there are similar circles it will be easy to group than objects that are different. The five principles of perceptual grouping in form perception are proximity, similarity, …show more content…
However, bottom-up processing is a process that starts with using your sensory receptors to detect information and transmits the information it finds to your brain where the brain receives the sensory information or message. An example of top-down processing is when someone is able to recognize something. An example of bottom-up processing is when someone becomes terrified by assuming something is moving on their hands. Furthermore, the perceptual set is a person’s reaction or response to certain activities in various ways. However, the dream that individuals have occur during the rapid eye movement sleep where we think and see different things in our mind. Furthermore, in the non-rapid eye movement sleep each stage can last up to five to fifteen minutes. In stage one, even though the eyes of a person is closed it is easy for the person to wake up. Stage two, the person is in light sleep where your heart rate and temperature goes down where your body starts preparing itself for deep sleep. Stage three, it becomes difficult for you to wake up because at this point you are in deep sleep and you are not aware whats going on around you. Stage four, is where the increased amount of high voltage occur with slow wave activity. However, during this stage our body grows and develops, strengthening our immune system. In the rapid eye movement sleep occurs for like ninety minutes when you sleep, where your heart rate and breath moves in a fast pace. At this stage, an individual has very deep dreams because the brain becomes more active during this phase. However, four possible reasons why we dream is because. The major sleep disorders are the periodic limb movement disorder, where it is the movements of the limbs during sleep. The REM sleep behavior disorder, which makes
