Kublai Khan ruled the Yuan Dynasty and Hulagu Khan ruled the Ilkhanate. But there were two other kingdoms that existed inside the Mongol kingdom. The Golden horde and the Chagatai Khanate. Both were ruled by khan’s that were related to Genghis Khan. One was Batu Khan, the son of the first and eldest son of Genghis Khan. He ruled the Golden Horde. The Chagatai Khanate was ruled by Chagatai.

At first other Khan’s stepped up and took over the nation. Since the empire was split into four khanates, these khanates continued to war and fight over land. All khan’s wanted to be supreme ruler but because they could not work together, the Mongols lost their title as supreme people.
After Kublai Khan died, other khan’s tried to take leadership. Unfortunately, none were as capable as Kublai Khan in leading the Mongols. They tried to keep Mongolia together but it only slipped further away.

The Golden Horde held on for years but as the Russian princes slowly fought back for their kingdoms, the Crimean warriors tormented the Mongols in southern Russia, and other unhappy Europeans fought back for their own nations, the Golden Horde started to fall. Already they were fighting with the Yuan Dynasty and Ilkhanate for supremacy. It only pulled them lower. Finally, they crumbled and other nations seized their lands.
The Ilkhanate lasted until the Black Death swept across Asia and Europe. The disease rushed through killing many people and ended up killing the Khan and all his sons. With no heir to the throne and no Khan to keep the nation alive, it fell.
The Chagatai Khanate never was very powerful. When it did have enough men to fight, it would lose them on fighting with the Yuan Dynasty or the Ilkhanate. In the end they faded into
