The Holocaust was a devastating event which has forever affected the world. It destroyed the lives of all those involved, whether they survived or not. It changed their perception of war as the real truth about the brutality that takes place was brought to light and confronted.
The effects the holocaust had on people then compared to now, 70 years later, still holds startling similarities. The lifelong struggles the survivors experience everyday is unimaginable, and the loss of their loved ones affects them today. As well as the physical, mental and psychological problems they encounter on a daily basis due to the harsh treatment and horrific experiments that occurred during the Holocaust.

On Jan 30th, 1933 the Holocaust began, parents were separated from their children, rescued children became orphans, all Jewish ‘power’ was stripped away. During the Holocaust was a horrendous time with 100s of 1000s of deaths each day. Families with no clue if their loved ones were dead or alive. Many are still unsure of the outcome for their parents or children, most assume deceased. After the Holocaust was when the weight of the past events hit everyone, including survivors and bystanders. Before WW1 people viewed going to war and being noble and heroic. The ways war was romanticized meant there was a smaller demand for soldiers. Men wanting to prove their bravery, courage and strength, it created a sense of ‘love story’ for the soldiers partners.
