The current day drug trafficking problem has been a result of many other problems dating back to when Europeans settled into America. The alcohol brought by Europeans was a gateway to other drugs. Reservations near the Mexico border are an entry way for drugs to get into the United States, especially since the reservation is so close to the border. One challenge is that law officials have a large amount of land they need to cover, but their staffing is low. Another challenge is that resources are limited including lack of funding and lack of technology. Because of the lack of funding, they are not able to hire enough law officials to cover the amount of land that needs covered.
