This made it very hard to have tension with Iraq because we wanted to keep the trade going. In 1983 President Ronald Regan directed more military units to oil facilities around Iraq. Our relationship with Iraq was a difficult and hard to understand one but we had to play nice because they had the natural resources. At this time Iraq and Iran were in an all out war. The United States decided to support Saddam in this effort because of the trade. In meeting with Saddam officials don’t even bring up his use of chemical warfare on his own people. The main thing that worried the united states was Iraq nuclear weapon program and whether or not they had the capability to fire an attack on the United States. The US ultimately declared war on Iraq in March 2003. President Bush warned Saddam giving him 48 hours to leave Iraq or face consequences. The United States Military toppled the Iraqi government and many smaller battles for power took place for who should run the government next. (www.telegraph.co.uk) As you can see the United States Government waited for the correct time to invade Iraq many today still believe that there were no weapons of mass destruction and there was no reason to invade. Saddam lead his country for over twenty years with out any consequences but the United States finally captured him and put him to death on December 30th,
