There are a lot of reason why they are noncompliant. For example, if you realize that you forget something while you are about inserting catheter into the patient, then you need to leave the room and start all over again. The patient will look at you stupid, and he will most likely refuse the care or he will ask for a different nurse. You will not look very professional, so you will have to be all ready and plan everything out before going into the room. Some patients are noncompliant because they feel hopelessness and just want to not live anymore. There could be different reasons why they are noncompliant. There are other possible factors: misunderstandings due to medical terminology, misunderstandings due to language, a hearing disability, or mental barriers, patient not realizing the seriousness of the condition, patient believing the treatment will be embarrassing or uncomfortable, and the list goes on (McGrath 2013). As a nurse, the first step is to find out why the patient is noncompliant. There are strategies to combat patient noncompliance such as educating the patient regarding the recommended treatment or test and why it is necessary, provide clear oral and written instructions to the patient, emphasize the seriousness of the condition, and explain to the patient why why they should accept the care to treat the condition. What practice could have made the enema administration more effective?
First, I should know that the UAP is clearly aware of how to admit an enema. I could go follow the UAP to make sure if he does it correctly. I could ensure that the patient’s vital signs are stable and that he is comfortable and does not require an alternative position. I could have UAP or myself to go see the patient more often than 2 hours. The target audiences of this paper are nursing students and these informations will be important to them, because they will all need to master all five step of nursing process and this paper shows all the important things about nursing implementation.
