Children that have physiological feeding issues may also have difficulty moving food around in their mouth, or even chewing and swallowing their food. Some babies may have a difficulty with breast or bottle feeding, because it’s difficult for them to swallow, and some are good until they are introduced to more solid kind of foods. Like sixty years ago autism was nothing more than an unrecognized developmental delay that generally formed in with mental “retardation”. But today it is recognized as an independent neurologically based disorder of significance, major public health problem, and even a topic of much more research on the way. Researchers have struggled to find a cause for the disorder without any success. Despite the difficulty of finding a major cause, research has still continued in ever direction. Numerous of treatments have been developed that could help children with autism. Even though there aren’t any breakthroughs that have appeared, there is still hope to find more treatments. The goals for the treatments vary, depending on the case but the main objective of the treatments are to increase the underdeveloped traits of the individual. This may not be an easy goal, but with time, hard work, and training it can be accomplished. Living with a sister that has autism has changed my life and opened the eyes of my family members. When my sister was little, we had to teach her baby sign language just for us to be able to talk to her. I’m glad that I got to do more research on something that is so close to my heart.
