The priority deficit in Summit County is that there is a general lack of readily accessible resources available to the public. Our plan is to institute a clinic offering regular blood pressure screening to the public that is free of charge. Having a screening clinic readily available to the public could help recognize hypertension at an earlier stage. According to Siu, the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends screening for high blood pressure after the age of 18. There is evidence that screening and treatment completed early for hypertension leads to a reduced number of cardiovascular events. Community based screening provides an opportunity for those in the community to obtain regular blood pressure readings. Hypertension is a multifactorial disease that’s effects are often ignored due to other diseases being seen as more important by the public. Habits such as excessive alcohol intake, poor diet, lack of exercise, and increased stress are just some of the many causes of this condition. Untreated high blood pressure can further lead to multiple comorbidities such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney damage.
