Healthcare is considerably more than just personal growth and treating a patient. Teamwork, collaboration and communication in the everyday practice has become essential in the patients’ health and wellbeing. The first encounter with the patient with the RN or HCP should establish a therapeutic relationship so the patient feels like a person and not a number. When a therapeutic relationship is built, the patient is likely to communicate more about signs, symptoms and history. During this process it’s important to build rapport with the patient as it creates a level of understanding to each other and unconsciously they’re more acceptable to suggestions (Jorgenson, 1992, p.148-149). By IPP and communication alongside the relationship built with the client is likely to addressed the problem quickly and also inform other healthcare workers if need be. A patient forming a foundation with one healthcare worker will be easier for the next worker. Over 50 different employees interact with a patient over a course of a four days in hospital (Hughes, O'Daniel, & Rosenstein, 2008, p.801). Establishing a good foundation at the start will definitely impact their stay.
