Pride is a great barrier to success in any endeavor and the Bible affirms that “pride leads to conflict” (Proverbs 13:10, New Living Translation). Therefore, engaging the process from a position of pride will not only escalate the level of contention, but will also not allow one to work constructively toward rapprochement. In contrast, humbling oneself enough to listen and receive can serve as a bridge toward cultivating an atmosphere of intimacy, collaboration and compassion, where both parties are actively involved in the process of conflict management. Balswick and Balswick (2014) noted that “collaboration can be viewed as a type of mutual empowerment, as tow people work together toward common goals” (p. 264).
