Although Confucianism teaches individuals about standards of conduct and virtues of daily life, it does not require individuals to believe in any specific religious traditions. As a result, Confucianism can be better understood as a philosophy and political ideology rather than a religion. Unlike other religions, Confucianism differs from them by not being an organized one nor does it include teachings regarding an specific cult or deity. Instead, a Confucian person may consider him or her-self to belong to an organized religion (Christianity, Islam, etc), but by announcing such religious affiliations, he or she does not cease to be a Confucian because of the ideology they believe in (Confucianism). Consequently, Confucianism plays an essential role in understanding Asian culture, because it has become part of virtually every aspect of life in different Countries including China, Korea, Japan, and Vietnam.
