The first risk I ever took was the one that completely changed my life. My middle school band directors were discussing marching band. I asked when the meeting was, and so I went. I didn't know a single thing about marching band or what it even entailed. I joined on a whim because my friends were doing it, and I wanted something to do that summer.…
I remember my 10 year old self sitting in the stands at the very first Roosevelt Rough Rider football game of the 2007-2008 season, and half-time had just began. My sister was in the marching band so I sat there scanning the field for her, but couldn’t find her. I stood up and looked one more time until I saw her, standing tall on top of the drum major podium, calling the band to attention and putting her hands in position to begin conducting the band. I watched her, in awe of how her hands moved as they hit every beat, giving the band the tempo to the music.…
1.) The most important function of the drum major is to be a leader along with having a confident, professional attitude. It is important to be respected by both my peers and staff in order for the ensemble to function. One must have the ability to inspire, assist and teach while in command with a desire for the marching band to succeed. The drum major should have an exceptional understanding of time and rhythm and effectively understand marching in order to help other students.…
Music I enjoy music It feels extraordinary Music’s important Band Band is amazing Blarp! Squeak! go the instruments…
This year, our Marching Band got the chance to go to Nashville, Tennessee where we encountered the different musical culture they had. We attended The Grand Ole Opry, a concert where many talented country musicians performed live in a giant hall. It was a fascinating experience when we learned about the musician’s lives through their music and what they consider everyday aspect of their lives that we don’t have farther up north. One of the band members got the opportunity to participate in a dance off onstage during one of the breaks, something the whole band celebrated in camaraderie. A museum with all things country music, “Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum” held all kinds of pieces from various dresses and instruments of musicians from…
These groups come in all shapes and sizes, from the kids who play Pokémon like it’s their job, to the popular kids that run the morning announcements of the school. This means marching band is a place for everyone to express himself or herself in any way, shape or form with no one to judge them. Vestavia Hills Rebel Marching Band last year had ten National Merit Semi-Finalist. I had the privilege last years to be the bands Homecoming King Nominee, which the band never gets to have. By have someone represent the band in a popularity based position or by its students being honored with excellent academics, marching band effects the school and students for the better and not just for what people chooses them to be.…
The outdoor setting of marching band fosters the flashiness and untamed passion required to make an emotional bond with far-away audiences. Each year in my marching band, I embraced the opportunities to learn new show tunes and skills for front ensemble, bass drum, snare drum, and then tenor drums. My love for marching band has influenced my personal musical selections. My favorite band is the funky brasshouse trio, Too Many Zooz. I would love to form a musical group while in college.…
I hate marching band. Leaving that trap of a class was the best decision I made in my entire high school experience. Once I had had enough of band, I joined theater. Joining theater fit my schedule well, introduced me to new people, and opened my mind to possibilities I hadn't considered before. The time I wasted in marching band was grueling.…
From the start of my four year commitment to football and marching band I saw leadership all around me. My first summer of football my freshman year the seniors were prime examples of leadership. They were right there to correct form on our lifts, blocks, and set the overall example of what it meant to be a Mead football player. Later that summer I threw in marching band camp to my agenda. The drum major, my sister, lead the band with kept the entire band in order, and worked with us until our sets were flawless.…
With a whistle around my neck and two friends by my side, I was never more proud than being a drum major for the Clark band. There is no place that made me more joyful than in the band hall, and outside on the podium, seeing months of improvement in front of me. The Clark band will always have a special place in my heart, giving me pleasant memories, and most importantly, two new best friends, that I am proud to call my fellow drum majors. The best moment that I have experienced in marching band was last year at Wylie Invitational, our final marching contest. It was six o’clock on a Saturday morning.…
In my seventh grade year, I decided to join band. I had known how to play flute, and though I wasn't the best I still enjoyed it so I continued. I played in band in eighth grade, too. The directors had decided since I was so “talented” I should join marching band.…
People are always looking for someone to lead them. We all need someone to look to for help or inspiration, whether it be a movie star, author, or even a teacher. Nowadays leadership is key to success. Just recently I learned how true the previous statement is. As part of the marching band, I play the alto saxophone and have had to deal with poor leadership within the section.…
I’ve also spent many hours participating in concert band. The William Blount High School Band has not only helped me grow as a tuba player, but the band has also helped me grow as a person. I’ve learned how to interact better with people because of band; I’ve also learned how to be an effective leader by being in the William Blount High School Band. I auditioned to be a drum major at the end of my sophomore year. Thankfully, I was awarded the position of pregame drum major.…
According to vocabulary.com, a leader is the person in charge of a group, who is able to convince other people to follow their lead. However, I strongly believe that a leader is much more than that. A great leader is a role model that “inspires” confidence in other people and the person who motivates their peers to put their best foot forward and achieve overall success by working together. As an upcoming sophomore next year, I am determine to become an assistant drum major because I want to gain experience as well as expanding my leadership skills through the dedication and commitment I have.…
I am a drum major for our marching band. Our band has qualified for the State Marching Contest in San Antonio two out of two possible times in my high school career. Being drum major teaches you a number of things. For example, it brings to light that everyone is not like you. They are not as motivated, and they don’t have the same passion and drive as you.…
