Before any future lawyer can apply to law school they must complete at least three or four years of college (Morkes 557). These years of college set the tone for what is going to come later on. In the Career Information Center it states that “A bachelor’s degree is required for entry into most law schools and courses in English, public speaking, government, history, economics, and mathematics are useful” (“Lawyers” Career Information center 56). This being said, just to get into law school takes quite some schooling. According to O-Net Online, 76% of lawyers acquired their Doctoral degree (“Summary Report”). It is apparent that to be successful in the field, a high education and degree is essential. After a student has earned the necessary degree they are eligible to take the LSAT or Law School Admission Test. This test determines whether a student will get into a law school or not. Because the numbers of applicants greatly exceed the number of spots available, admission to law school is very competitive (“Lawyers” Career Information Center 56). Being said, this means that it is harder to get a job in this field because of the high number of graduates. After being admitted into law school, students are then required to “...complete a juris degree...” (“Lawyers” Occupational Outlook Handbook). Lawyers are the ones responsible for making sure the peoples legal rights are being met and this is what makes them important. A lawyer may also represent business and individuals.
