While critical thinking may seem like something that one was born with naturally, however, this is not the case. All of us are thinkers in some degree, however only some of us can be classified as critical thinkers who can apply these particular skills in a decisive situation. In order to achieve critical thinking skills, one must learn to become a fair-minded thinker.
A fair-minded thinker aims to treat every viewpoint equally in a given situation, free of biased or influenced from others. It’s a trait that takes a sizable amount of practice since human’s mind is egocentric in nature, thus we tend to prejudge others’ points of view unconsciously. Life in general is full of obstacles, thus there is always a struggle within. According to Richard Paul and Linda Elder, an intellectual perseverance involves adhering to rational principles despite the natural tendency to go with first impressions and easy answers. Intellectual perseverance came in to play early in 2016 when I was contemplating on going back to school. My instinct told me that it was going to cost me a lot of time and money – both of which I hate to spare. At the end, I decided that those two factors are not going to stop me from advancing my education and paving another career path for myself. I’m currently in the third trimester with CSUGlobal and I strongly believe that all the obstacles can be overcome as long as I stay focus and tackle them
