Education about other religions can go a long way to easing tensions. Simply respecting other’s right to believe in what they choose believe in, is paramount. If a person does not like it, they do not have to practice it. The freedom of speech also allows those that do not want the center to be built there, have the right to say so. The freedom of speech is the ability for citizens to speak or write whatever you want, regardless of what others might think (Kohn, 2015). They can talk about politics, candidates, religion, laws or anything they want without fearing that the government will arrest or detain them. People can assemble freely, but peacefully to express their thoughts, ideas and beliefs. With the example above, protestors have the right to assemble and PEACEFULLY protest (Kohn, 2015). Unfortunately, protest often does not remain peaceful. People have passion in their beliefs and speak their mind without thinking, caring what is said, or how the other side might take it. Often times, they are not open to other beliefs and discussion turns to arguments, when can become even more heated and violence can erupt. The freedom of speech does come with responsibility. Although many states are now including the right, it should be a personal amendment added. Marriage equality only affects those who want to marry. If you do not want to marry someone gay, do not do so. It should be a protected right. Many want to bring religious meaning in, where it does not belong. The separation of church and state makes the lack of marriage equality an argument that is invalid. One I would remove would be the thirteenth amendment.
