As I recall during my K-12 school years, I was always fascinated by science and getting my hands dirty doing lab experiences. I recollect the first time learning about the human influence on the environment. It was during my sixth grade year, my teacher brought up the “Inconvenient Truth” by A.L. Gore during the last week of class before summer break. We had finished all of our assignments and the teacher decided to share this interesting documentary that recently came out at the time. “The Inconvenient Truth” had opened my young eyes to how humans’ actions are causing such drastic changes on the planet and how these changes will ultimately destroy majority of life including our species if we do not do something. It revealed the dangers of global warming and call for immediate action to curb its destructive effects on the environment. Afterward, the documentary changed the way I saw environment and I aspired to take responsibility for my influence on the environment. Luckily, thru the rest of my K-12 school years I had teachers and mentor that helped nourish this idea in my head and lead me into the path of deciding to make a career in environmental …show more content…
During that time I took AP Environmental Science to see if this was the path I desired to take as career. The whole time I spent in that class I explored different environmental issues that were causing havoc on the environment due to human impact. For instance, air pollution was due to different factors like car emissions and in different parts of the world certain areas essentially need special precautions to protect themselves from the environment when they try to just go outside. Moreover, the most impactful lesson that stuck with me was when we went over about the different worldviews of the environment. Our teacher made us choose a worldview we believe in. The options were planetary management, stewardship, or environmental wisdom. It was hard for me to choose between stewardship and environmental wisdom. I agreed with the stewardship view that we have an ethical responsibility to be care of the earth. But I do not agree on how we should take of our resources. I do not concur that we will probably not run out of resources, however they should not be wasted. That’s why I chose environmental wisdom. Majority of what this worldview stands for I agree. Unlike the stewardship view, environmental wisdom represents to me the view that humans are completely dependent on the environment and everything exists for all species. Resources are limited and
