The FDA safety requirements emphasize the legal duty of everyone working in the farm that produces GM foods in securing safe food for the public. Essentially, the FDA ensures that on everyone in the farm to table continuum is meeting their Obligations to making sure the public receive safe and healthy food. Furthermore, The FDA is much involved in guiding investors that are interested in the initiation of GM foods’ farms. And to help facilitate this process, the agency has created a consulting program known as the Plant Biotechnology Consultation Program. In addition, it is important to highlight that all foods have the propensity to cause allergic reactions in human, hence the traditional foods and GM foods are no exceptions in that regard. Although some may argue that the probability of allergic reaction to certain foods for has been accelerated by the alteration of their various gene sequences (Klonosk, 2014).
Overall, I would recommend genetically engineered food for consumption although the long-term environmental consequence is yet to be seen.
Conclusion
Although the verdicts are still out on long-term consequences of the GM foods, GM foods have been in the market since the 1900s and numerous people have consumed the food products without reported obvious health consequences.
