I was also able to learn from teaching during this lesson that students can benefit from having hands on activities, or one that requires something other than sitting and listening. For example, during this lesson, the students were able to demonstrate their knowledge through movement. They were also able to choose pictures of objects from bags to determine if they were living on non-living. Having visual examples for students that also relate to them can be helpful when teaching science. The students did do a good job with listening to directions and following rules, but I think part of the reason for this was that they had many movement breaks other ways to remain focused. Some topics in science can be very abstract for students, so finding a way to make the content relatable for the students is very important. The idea of living and non-living is something that the students are already familiar with. They encounter living and non-living things in their daily lives, which makes teaching the students this content a bit easier. Being able to observe is a great way to find ways to improve lessons, and having someone observe you is a great way to gain feedback for future lessons. Being able to have a co-teacher is very helpful because we each have our own strengths and weaknesses. Being able to work together with the same person for seven lessons has allowed me to learn a lot about myself and my ability to work with others. It was difficult, at first, to adjust to one another’s styles as both teachers and students. Once we were able to get into a rhythm with working with one another, I think we were able to learn a lot from one another. By having the opportunity to watch another practicum student teach, I was able to reflect upon my own teaching and find way to improve my style and approaches. Being able to collaborate with someone else is helpful and also makes the workload more manageable. It also ensure that there are always two people observing the lesson, and therefore providing two perspectives that can be discussed. Up to this point, we have been simply collaborating on lessons. This lesson was strong, and I think that having a chance to write a lesson together, and teach together, was a good learning
