These students are already at a disadvantage in learning since they are not learning through their primary language and are already behind their peers. Having a LLD makes learning a language difficult and is not only in the primary language but is also in the second language as well. Luckily treating an ELL with a LLD is no different than treating or teaching a typical student with a LLD. According to Green et al. “ learning is fundamentally an dependent on vocabulary knowledge, student can learn vocabulary indirectly through exposure, conversations with others, being to read, or reading on one’s own” (p.193). This is important so the student does not fall behind or any further behind than he/she may be. As far as it affecting their literacy skills if a student has an LLD he/she is going to have problems reading and writing, causing them to fall behind. A LLD might not always be prevalent in ELLs since they may already be behind or struggling picking up the new language. The earlier the detection the sooner they can get help the sooner intervention can start. Since language and early literacy is such an important aspect in a humans life any problems needs to be corrected as soon as it is noticed. It is also extremely important to keep an eye on ELLs since their LLD might not be as prominent as a typical English language learner’s maybe. It is important to keep an eye on each student as an individual, that way if any change is noted it can be looked into
