The U.S. spends more money than any other country in the world on health care.” Despite the high spending, Americans are not anywhere near the world’s healthiest. More than 35% of Americans are obese, one of the highest rate in the world, and exceptionally high compared with other countries spending the most on health. The United States is also the only top 10 country for health spending where the life expectancy does not exceed 80 years” (Stebbins and Frohlich). The fact that the spending is so high yet the health of the citizens is so low shows a correlation that the citizens are uneducated when it comes to their own biology. The government can spend as much as they want on healthcare but unless they educate the masses nothing will change. Big business spends massive amounts of money on advertising fast food products that are extremely unhealthy but cater to the everyday people’s hectic schedules. This direct to consumer marketing and lack of education has led to a generation of unhealthy Americans. According to The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), 70.1% of the U.S. population is overweight (Overweight). Support the military because it is the most patriotic act one ordinary citizen can commit. That every day the military is fighting for each citizens’ freedom. This message has dictated the over inflated military spending. The U.S. spends 596 billion dollars a year on its military.
