The king tried to govern the Americas and then proceeded to tell the colonies that they cannot make their own rules. The colonists still had to follow the rule of the king. The king soon after, made a list of rules and implemented the rules and made sure they were carried out in the states. The men in the states were presented with the present constitution that stated that the continent can make no laws, but what the laws the king leaves; and if there is any man so unwise, as to not so see, that he will suffer no law to be made here, but such as it suits his purchase. (RTAP 14). Paine then states that America is just the second part in British politics. England consults the good of [this] country, no farther than it answers her purpose. (RTAP 14). By Paine stating this, he is showing and describing to the readers on how the government came about when the English came over. Britain wanted to hold reign on the colonists and control their government. In attempts to keep Britain’s rule in the America’s, the British government put a tax on stamps to help get themselves out of debt from the French and Indian War. (RTAP 13). Everything that occurred during this time shaped America forever, whether in a religious way, economical standpoint, or from a political standpoint. All three of these aspects helped develop and influence what America is today. The primary factor that shaped America into what it is today was the role of politics. A system had to have certain politics, or a way to properly govern that each individual colony could survive with and abide by. Not all, but many of the people who came to America, came to settle and have a better life here than over in Europe. Even the indentured servants were affected by the politics. The indentured servants were involved in these politics in a way that created a law stating they had to work on plantations or farms for seven years and then after that their debt would be paid and then they could go free. Without the politics and goings on of the governments in the colonies at the time, there would be no process that would let the indentured servants be able to have a successful life after they served their
