He won the kite running tournament, he loses his best friend. His father shows him respect and love, he is forced to leave his home. He falls in love with a beautiful woman, his father loses his battle with cancer;however, while these moments may have helped Amir mature, there is one moment that completely broke Amir. When his half-nephew, Sohrab, attempts to commit suicide. After saving Sohrab from Assef, Amir goes through the process of adopting him so that he can get him into the United States, only to be advised to once again put Sohrab into a orphanage for a few months.Sohrab did not want to go back to the orphanage because he was afraid someone like Assef would take him again.
