Introduction
It was January 1933, Adolf Hitler got a chance to become Reich chancellor of Germany. After a couple of weeks Hitler already gain trust of two-thirds of the parliament and in July 1933 Adolf Hitler banned all the other politic parties from the parliament except for the NDSAP.
A few years before Adolf Hitler came to power the Stock Market Crash of 1929 happened. As a result of the high economic growth after the first world war the shares of the stock market increased to high levels, they cost much more than they were worth. Because of this there was a crisis in Germany, people lost their job and there was a lot of poverty.
Did these two events had a connection? Would Adolf Hitler never have gain the power that he had if it wasn’t for the Stock Market Crash in 1929? These question led to my main question:
To what extent was the stock market crash the main cause for the Second World War?
This research will focus on the economic situation in Germany before and after the Stock Market Crash of 1929, and I will compare these situations with each other before I can state if the Stock Market Crash of 1929 had an impact on Germany. After this I will focus on studies that explain voting behaviors of populations, and I will examine what could have driven the German population into voting for the extremely-right Nazi party of Adolf Hitler.
The main question is divided into the following sub-questions.
