Aikido is a Japanese martial art founded by Morihei Ueshiba also known as O’sensei, great teacher, due to his talent and the numerous contributions to the art. The origination of this martial art goes back to the 9th century, and since then has been passed down from generation to generation, each with a different name, till this day which is now known as Aikido. The translation of Aikido is “the way of harmony.” Aikido is a blend of religious practices and philosophy. As O’sensei continued to develop Aikido, his main goal or his idea of a martial art is to be able to defend yourself, but to not hurt your opponent. By doing this, this would make you a better person. Aikido focuses on redirecting the force of the opponent, rather than taking him or her head on.
