While it won’t be easy to create a whole new schedule it may prove to be beneficiary to the students. As stated in the article Eight Major Obstacles to Delaying School Start Times “many students find that if they sleep more, they can finish their homework faster and have ample time to participate in extracurricular activities”. It will not suit everybody’s daily routine though, as their will be some drawbacks that will cause problems to arise for transportation, after school activities, and teachers. As mentioned in Eight Major Obstacles to Delaying School Start Times “changing school start times could have a negative in transportation cost, redesigning the routes, and recruiting drivers”. In addition students may have limited time to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports and clubs which are a great way for students to take a break from studying and give their mind rest. Although the main concern is for students to get enough sleep, teachers should also be taken into account for especially when they are the ones teaching. Yet all this can be in vain if the students themselves don’t appreciate what is done for them and continue to wander off into the world of technology at night. The refusal to do so is one of the primary reasons why we don’t get the necessary amount of sleep needed daily. Meeri Kim informs us of the effects of light in her document Blue light from electronics disturbs sleep, especially for teenagers. In this document she lets us know that “The pervasive glow of electronic devices may be an impediment to a good night’s sleep” she reinforces her statements by adding that “light — particularly of the blue variety — can keep the pineal gland from releasing melatonin, thus warding off sleepiness”. This is precisely what is happening to the youth of today. Before going to bed many are attached to social media such as Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram etc. What parents can do to further prevent this from occurring is take their kids device away. Meeri gives us the statistic that “Based on what parents reported, sleep quality was better among children age 6 to 17 who always turned their devices off: 45 percent of them were described as having excellent sleep quality vs. 25 percent of those who sometimes left devices on. Proving once again that usage of electronic devices before going to sleep can lead to lack of
