Something that simple was a game changer for my lesson.
After we finished, it was time to go straight into Literacy Centers. Every week, my first group is the medium group. It is important that while these students are group in the medium group based off of their current levels, it has come to my attention that this group is significantly diverse and have a very wide range of abilities. After, I felt confident in their abilities to successfully complete the assignment. They were able to successfully break into groups of two and successfully match the images provided with the correct superlatives and comparatives. They were genuinely involved and engaged in the activity. Once they completed all of the parts of the activity, I asked them to give me some of their answers and we quickly reflected on why answers were correct. Then, I explained to them that they would be doing something very similar to the activity, but they would be making their own picture for the different comparatives and superlatives. They were excited that they were going to get a chance to show what they have learned through drawing and being creative. All of their drawings were very unique, thoughtful, and creative. I was shocked because sometimes they were able to come up with things that I would've never originally thought. For example, for cold, colder, and coldest, one of the students drew a water for cold, a refrigerator for colder, and a popsicle for coldest. I couldn't believe how accurate and out of the box their response was. Even the students in my lower group were making creative
