Martin Luther was a young professor of sacred scripture. Luther had forsaken money and marriage for a monastic life of prayer, study and self-denial. He found a passage from the Saint Paul’s Epistle that stated salvation resulted in from religious faith, not from doing certain things a certain way. This led Luther to object the way preachers were emphasized giving money to the church rather than focusing on emphasizing faith. Martin Luther wrote a complaint to Pope Leo about this abuse and challenged all of the preachers to a debate over the theology of indulgences. Calvin adopted Protestantism. He believed God had called upon him to lead the reformation of Christianity. In 1536 Calvin produced a document that outlined the new faith of Protestantism.

Calvinists also lived a simple life and dress and worshipped in a simple way, they avoided ostentatious living and stripping churches of statues, most musical instruments, stained-glass windows, incense, and vestments.
King Henry also had a huge impact on the Reformation of Catholicism. King Henry was a Roman Catholic so when his wife, Catherine of Argon, could not produce a male heir to the thrown he couldn’t just divorce her. The Catholic church did not grant his request to an annul the marriage. Henry grew impatient and demanded the Archbishop of Canterbury to grant him a divorce, he was granted the divorce although against the wishes of the pope.
