Gatsby dreams of Daisy and feels like he won’t accomplish the American dream until he has Daisy. While Gatsby was away in war, Daisy had met and married Tom. Gatsby knew Daisy has always been rich and thinks he has to have money to get with her so he can get her anything she wants. Gatsby would always look out at the green light where Daisy lived.
