Things like Twister, Operation, Monopoly, are all toy games. They are considered games for many reasons. There have been many occasions where they’ve been showcased or advertised. Skateboards are toys because they are a bit more directed towards kids, and they can can keep us entertained for a long time. Yo-yo is also considered a game because most kids will challenge their friends with tricks and how long you can go. In that situation, it was being advertised through competition. For instance, the game Operation was first released in 1965 (Phipps). Although it doesn’t give much info about the game itself, it still gives info of when it was released. Research shows, “with it’s trick throws, juggling, behind-the-back catches, and other flashy moves, Freestyle caught the public imagination in the 1960s” (Pendergast 796-797, 881). Although it doesn’t mention what exactly the game is, it’s Frisbee. Skateboarding was fun, yet somewhat a dangerous activity to do, and along with yo-yo, a lot of people still do it today. Operation has changed a lot since the good ‘ol days. And Frisbee. Although not played much anymore, is still a fun one.
