However Teddy was born with asthma which he struggled with in his early years as a child. Teddy came to the decision that he would take a gymnastics and weightlifting class to get his body and shape and hopefully diminish the effects of asthma he had been struggling with. After the class Teddy became a lifetime advocate for exercise and Teddy would always find time in his day to get outside and exercise. Teddy would always find “....time for physical exertions including hiking, riding horses, and swimming(Millercenter ).” Growing up Teddy became a very well rounded person always taking on new challenges and grasping opportunities. Roosevelt got a taste of international life at a very young age and was traveling all over Europe and the Middle East with his family. Once Roosevelt returned to the United States he enrolled in Harvard College. He studied a lot of subjects “including German, natural history, zoology, forensics, and composition. He also continued his physical endeavors, taking on boxing and wrestling as new pursuits(MillerCenter).” Tragedy hit Teddy on February 12th 1884 when his wife Alice Lee and his mother died within hours of each other because of sickness. Teddy was very true to his party and proved that during the campaign. Teddy always seemed to do things to the fullest and when he decided to do something he put all his resources towards it. However when President McKinley was murdered Teddy took his position and became the twenty sixth president of the United States. He also became the youngest person to serve as president.
