Within his first hundred days, Roosevelt was very busy, for Roosevelt asked Congress to remove Prohibition; if it was allowed to sell alcohol, more jobs would be needed in bars and breweries. He then signed the Tennessee Valley Authority Act which allowed the government to build dams along the Tennessee River because the dams would provide cheap energy for the people. Soon after that, he signed the National Industry Recovery Act (NIRA) which gave workers the right to form unions. (This led to the formation of the National Recovery Administration, or the NRA. Roosevelt also brought the Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA) into play. The first version of the AAA was deemed unconstitutional because Roosevelt was paying farmers to stop growing certain crops. Roosevelt quickly presented a second version of the AAA which was accepted. The government bought farms and stored them until the prices went up. (People often refer to this busy section as the First Hundred Days.) Although these acts seem minor, they helped the nation out tremendously
