On 08/08, we arrived at Tonto Creek and set up 75 traps at Bar X crossing. We placed 42 traps north of the crossing in the main channel and 33 traps just south of the crossing in the main channel. Traps were checked twice daily; in the mornings we inventoried all organisms and emptied traps, and evenings only documented native herps. We pulled traps from Bar X on 08/11 at 1300, two days early due to flooding. During the week, we conducted two visual encounter surveys, one south of Bar X crossing in the creek and one south of A crossroad, in the main channel.…

Within about eight hours, John had successfully created a trap that he planned using on Zaroff. The trap was originally going to be almost exactly like the one Rainsford built that killed Zaroff’s best dog. Since his goal now was to kill Rainsford, he built the trap deeper and laid some spiked sticks upright for Rainsford to fall…
Assignment 1: Biodiversity Issue – Tanya Williams Feral Horses: a cultural icon or an environmental nightmare. With the population of brumbies growing, the Victorian government are looking to find alternative ways to manage the numbers of feral horses that are living within the Alpine environment. However, when Australians think about wild horses, they associate them with the Australian identity as they have helped form our ‘outback’ culture. This has caused debate between environmentalists and the community as to what type of management projects should be taken to control the number of brumbies within national parks. Australian culture and wild horses The Victorian Brumby Association (VNBA) view wild horses as a major component within…
Jeannette Walls earliest childhood memory shared within her book, The Glass Castle: A Memoir, is of her getting taken to the hospital after getting caught on fire while cooking hot dogs for herself as a three year old. According to the doctors she was “lucky to be alive” (Walls 9), and was left with a permanent scar from a skin graft. Living in a trailer in Southern Arizona with two siblings, Lori and Brian, and her Mom and Dad, Jeannette was considered, “mature for [her] age” (Walls 9), making meals and entertaining herself. Her father, Rex Walls, broke her out of the hospital without paying the bill and brought her home after a few days, where life resumed as normal, and Jeannette remained unshaken by fire, having already, “fought the fire once and won” (Walls 14).…
Frank Trippett, in his excerpt, claims that ordinary, law-abiding American citizens are shaking the social order by going against the law. He supports his claim by suggesting that many Americans casually commit crimes without realizing they are becoming lawbreakers. He continues by asserting that Americans are only used to thinking of violence related crimes as what is threatening today’s peace. The author’s purpose is to inform the reader of these casual lawbreaking incidents so that the reader will consider themselves as one of those potential lawbreakers. Citizens should be more aware of the small crimes committed every day and the negative results they have on society.…

Why would a “charming, highborn gentleman” like Edward Pierce want to commit a crime so “startling and titillating” as the Great Train Robbery? (Crichton 7). When Pierce was asked at his trial about his motive for “planning and executing this dastardly and shocking crime,” he simply answered that he “wanted the money” (Crichton 357). Pierce’s true motivation was caused by a simple desire; instead, it was caused by his character flaws of greed and egotism. Michael Crichton captured Edward Pierce’s avarice in The Great Train Robbery by focusing on his overly self-confident, manipulative, and sly nature.…

Many people fail to realize exotic pets go through abuse when traveling from place to place, or even when the animals are living with an owner. According to Peta, in the article “Inside the Exotic Pet Trade” and “Keep Wild Animals Out of Backyards”, Chrissy Matthies, an author for Peta claims, “ When trappers, take animals from their natural habitats, the animals often change hands several times through intermediaries and exporters, and they endure grueling transport conditions.” The definition of trappers is “the use of device to remotely catch an animal”(The Adventures of Jungle Jenny). Which means exotic animals go through countless people before actually arriving at a destination and when being transported the animals are crammed into very small crates, boxes, and various other places through the animal 's journey. Another example from Peeta, in the article “Inside the Exotic Trade”, Chrissy Matthies writes, “ Baby turtles have been taped so that they are trapped inside their shells and shoved by the dozen into tube socks”.…
