Forensic science is the study of criminal justice. They study the reasoning behind crimes, such as what causes them to do it and when they did it. In forensics they learn how to analyze blood and DNA, today's technology it helps a lot to solve crimes. Evidence in forensics can vary from hair, blood, weapons, fingerprints and any other DNA. There are several parts in the forensic science field that interest me. Three of those fields are forensic psychology, forensic pathology and forensic odontology. I have been interested in forensic science since i was about 12 because i like knowing how and why a crime was committed. Most people get the “CSI effect” which is when you learn to love Forensics from television shows. But …show more content…
To become a pathologist you have to receive a bachelor's degree and you are considered a medical doctor. Today there is a count of only 500 forensic pathologists on full time. Ane easier route to being a pathologist is by being a pathologist technician, all you need to do is study biology, chemistry, or forensic science at a 4 year college. Forensic Pathology focuses on determining the causes and time of a death by an autopsy. Pathology studies sudden, unexplained, and violent deaths. Forensic Pathology also deals with diseases. Pathologists will study samples of blood, tissue, and urine to identify and learn more about diseases in the body. An autopsy is the dissection and examination of a body. They use multiple ways to determine when someone died such are rigor mortis, this happens within 24 hours after a death, this is when the body's muscles relax then become more rigid. Algor mortis is another way they use to determine when the death occurred, it is the gradually cooling of the body after death, pathologists have to consider factors such as where that body is, the temperature in the air, and the size of the body to determine the time in death from the temperature. Another method they use is livor mortis, within 12 hours after death all the blood in the body stops being pumped through and settles to the part lowest to the …show more content…
This is how they identify an individual through their teeth. They normally only use forensic odontology when there is only the remains of a skeleton left from a body from fires, explosions, and plane crashes. To be a forensic odontologist you have to have a lot of experience or you have to be a very well trained dentist. Forensic odontologists look at the the alignment of the teeth, and other information to help identify who the person was and the age of the person by finding old dental records. They can sometimes match the dental remains to dental records of a suspected victim. Forensic odontologists may also look at the bite marks on someone to try to identify who the person was. At the end of the study the scientist has to write a detailed report on what was done, how it was found, and the conclusion of the
